White-water rafting is not difficult to find in the French southern Alps: Roya, Var, Daluis, Verdon all offer great rides with great guides in amazing locations.
 

And if rafting has become a tedious form of already-done-it, why not try the hydrospeed, with a bodyboard, helmet, jacket, gloves, wetsuit and flippers?
Or canorafting, a two-person inflatable boat/canoe, also with full protective gear as the hydrospeed?
Or air-boating, like canorafting but in a single-person inflatable craft which you're  sitting on rather than in? The same protective gear as for the above.
